Learning how to effectively communicate and make connections with people is crucial for any business owner. How you present and conduct yourself makes all the difference in the world when a person decides to use your services. Are you connecting with people or rubbing them the wrong way?

As an example, my awesome assistant Bonita told me someone called my office about the complimentary event I am putting together for women entrepreneurs this Saturday. The person was rude and demanding and clearly missed the fact that I am spending money to put on a complimentary event for women in the community. While just about every other woman has thanked me for doing something that most would not, this person chose to put demands on ME! Imagine that? I have learned from my mentors and own experiences a long time ago, that as soon as someone shows you who they are through negativity, then you quickly make the decision that is not a person you want to work with or bring around other positive people. As an entrepreneur you have the option of deciding who you do and do not want to work with. Some clients are just not worth it and it defeats the purpose of you doing your own thing and having control over your own destiny. Never settle for working with someone who will make you miserable!

On the flip side, I also received a beautiful thank you note in the mail from an awesome business women who saw me present for Woman Entrepreneur of the year in Dallas. This already very successful woman told me she learned so much for my presentation and thanked me for sharing. That brought a smile to my face. It only takes a second to thank someone for sharing their time, expertise or kind words…and it goes a long way in making a connection that could one day turn out to be huge.

While I was in Miami out shopping, I noticed the business owners doing more than usual to attract clients and customers into their shops. Miami ALWAYS has people working to hustle up people to dine at their restaurants or shop in their stores. They don’t just let people walk by, they hire people to actually talk to you and get you to buy from them. Everyone is hustling up business. But this time, I noticed them doing even more, probably in response to the economy which is of course the smart thing to do. Stores were holding fashion shows using their sales clerks to model and walk the runway IN THE STORE, all in an effort to get customers inside so they could sell them. I thought it was brilliant. But it also got me to thinking about how little most people do in their own business to bring in customers. You can’t just send an email or post your business link on Facebook, that doesn’t work. You HAVE to have a list of prospects that you can communicate with. Without a list, the key to ANY business, you will not get to the level you want. Having a list means you are targeting your ideal market. Doing anything else, means you are out there blindly marketing to anyone, many of who are not interested in what you are offering. Building your list is an ongoing process that successful entrepreneurs are working on continuously, that is how and why they are making money.

You have to have a system of marketing to people that is well thought out and delivers a clear and concise message that resonates with your target market. So if you do not have a list for your business that is a TARGETED list and you are not bringing in new prospects, then chances are I have just solved your business challenge. I personally don’t care whether you have a GED, PhD, B.A, or B.S. The only degree that matters is your MBA! No I do NOT mean a Masters in Business Administration. MBA stands for MASSIVE BANK ACCOUNT. I first heard this from one of my coaches, James Malinchak and boy was he on the money!

In the entrepreneurial world, degrees and where you went to school don’t matter all that much. Speaking of the Extreme Women Entrepreneurs Event! As the buzz about the retreat continues to increase, so is a question I seem to be getting over and over again and I thought I would take some time here to address. Women keep hearing me talk about “MY SYSTEM” and they are demanding to know MORE. Pushy and aggressive Superwomen…I LIKE IT! LOL

To prosper in business there is a basic formula that you have to master first, make sure you write this down someplace:

Traffic + Conversion= Cash

Looks and sounds simple right? Well the sad truth is few women entrepreneurs know how to make this formula work for their business. The system everyone hears me talking about is centered on this concept and this concept only. Once I learned how to drive traffic to my web site, blogs, social media sites, etc. I then learned a system of converting that traffic from what are called “prospects” to actual customers or clients. Once they became customers, that of course equaled Cash. Yes, there are proven strategies on how to perform each step of the formula that whenever applied correctly, will translate into money for your business.

No, it does not matter what business you are in, this formula works for ANY business and if you are thinking, “but Vicki my business if different” I am here to tell you that it is not, and more importantly I can show how.

Here is another tip and rule that successful entrepreneurs live by that is included in “The System” you will be shown. TEST, TEST, TEST! If you were on the call I did in February with guest speaker Kim Davis, you heard her talk about the importance of constantly testing and tweaking your core formula to see what works best. The GREAT part is Kim will be sharing her expertise in this area that has allowed her to make 9k in two days from her computer while she slept!
